Charley’s book joins a stable of 7 other books written by Bryan Pass, co-owner of Longdown Activity Farm. Aimed at pre-schoolers and primary-aged children, the books feature various farm animals that live at the popular New Forest-based attraction. All of Farmer Bryan’s books, and now Charley’s book, are beautifully illustrated by local cartoonist and author, Simon Chadwick, who is well-known for his own wonderful New Forest-based books. His bright and colourful illustrations bring the fun and educational books alive with detailed farming scenes and amusing cartoon farm animals. Bryan explains: “Charley asked me to write my next book about her pony, but I refused because all I know about horses is that they tend to run up large vet bills. The next thing I know, having consulted with her English of my favourite animals on the farm like pigs and goats, but I was upset that he didn’t want to write about Chesney, my pony. Chesney is very naughty and cheeky, so it was easy to think of a storyline. It was great fun writing the tale, so it didn’t take me too long to finish. I really hope that children who like ponies and horses enjoy Chesney’s adventure.” Charley was delighted with Simon Chadwick’s illustrations as she felt that he really captured Chesney’s mischievous personality for everyone to love. Don’t tell Grandad, but Charley is planning her next book which will tell the tale of a pig called Boris. Chesney the Shetland Pony is available to buy in the Longdown Activity Farm gi shop, e Herald O ce in Hythe or online at www.longdownfarm.co.uk or www.ceratopia.co.uk It costs £4.99 (plus P&P). teacher at school, Charley presented me with a draft manuscript explaining that as I wouldn’t write a book about Chesney, she’d gone and written it herself. I am proud to say we all agreed that the book was appropriate as a wonderful addition to the Longdown storybook collection.” Charley adds : “I love Grandad’s books because they tell stories about some Charley Pass with Chesney the Shetland Pony Age Concern New Forest would like to thank supporter of their charity Mr. Frank Wood for the donation of 130 home grown tomato plants. ese were sold at their O ce and Shop in Dibden Purlieu and raised £120 for the charity.
