Roy still lives at home with his daughter Christine, son in law Ian and grandson Carlton. His granddaughter, Pippa lives in Southampton. Roy served in WW2 with the Beds and Herts regiment and was a Japanese prisoner of war for three and a half years. He went to Singapore and worked on the infamous death railway in Burma, as told in the lm Bridge over the river Kwai. On returning from the war Roy married Cynthia and they were together for 69 years. Roy moved to the New Forest in 2014 with Cynthia to live with his daughter and family. During his career he headed the accounts team and became general manager of Allied Iron Foundry in Welwyn Garden City and later had a hardware business in Codicote. To celebrate his special birthday, he went out for a family meal. He says he is looking forward to the summer when he can sit outside and be driven around the forest to watch the ponies. Roy Housden Totton based Tidal Arts are holding a Paper Cra Shoe class on Wednesday 25th March at Testwood Sports College in the Art Department, from 6.30pm until 9pm. £10 per person. Make a paper shoe from card, paper owers gems, ribbon and feathers. Go along and be creative with Tory and she will show you how to make a beautiful shoe. e shoe can be used as a greetings card, or can be lled with sweets, chocolate etc. for that special birthday treat. All materials are provided, however if you have some papers or little bits and pieces you wish to use feel free to bring them along.
