With her passion for music, Mum carried on playing the piano and was one of the pianists for Esso Music and Drama Group which later became Waterside eatre Company. Mum was heavily involved with the group in many ways - acting, singing, business manager, playwright, musical director and of course, pianist. e last show she played for was the group’s Diamond anniversary show at the remarkable age of 82 years young. Sadly a broken arm forced her to give up on her passion of playing. Mum always had an incredible positive attitude in life and, even though she had become more and more frail in later years, she was still very active in her mind right up until the end. She had a stroke a week before she died and she passed away peacefully in her own bed with her family around her, exactly as she’d have wanted. It’s with great sadness that the Totton Christmas Lantern Parade has had to be cancelled this year. It’s too difficult to predict what the situation will be and the organisers don’t want to promote something that encourages a gathering at the wrong time. However, as they love Christmas in Totton so much, the committee (or ‘Elves’ as some say) have been working hard to come up with plans to bring the community together at this special time of year. Caroline will be lming lantern making workshops for everyone to follow at home, Julie is going to be organise competitions and on-line entertainment, Richard and Jenni are chatting to Santa to double check his arrangements and they are all looking at ways to display the lanterns, both online and from a COVID-Safe distance. Conversations are being had about the Town’s Christmas lights and as a committee they are determined to bring the magic and sparkle to Totton, despite this year’s restrictions. Watch out – e Elves are about!
