Due to COVID-19 there are many of our local families who will be struggling this year more than ever. Some may have never needed help before, but due to a change in circumstances, need it more than ever. Martin Smith from e Lovely Little Café in Dibden Purlieu set up a Facebook page called ‘Waterside Free Meals Support’ in order to reach out to those that could help along with those that would bene t from the support. Martin and his team decided to provide a menu of hot and cold meals with co-ordination assistance from Donna Osman at Oyster Financial Planning. is initiative saw hours of work by Martin and his team provide over 550 meals which were collected or delivered to some very happy children and grateful parents. Paulesh Patel at WH Smith in Dibden Purlieu, along with large donations, also stocked meals from the lovely little café. Joining the e orts were Mike Sangha at Fawley Express in partnership with Colin Steele & Jade Newstart at e Falcon Inn in Fawley and Amanda, Jonathan and Pippa at Harveys of Hythe all o ered Free School meals with a great response. AFC Totton in partnership with G-Hosp also generously o ered free hot meals to children in their community. Support from the local community was as always heartening to see. e Handy Trust played a huge part in contacting families they work with, creating awareness and delivering hot meals. Megan Bibb of Megan Cares also helped with responses and deliveries. A huge thank you of course goes out to each and every company and individual who donated cash or donations to the SO45 Online treasury account run by Oyster Financial and the wonderful donations of ingredients that went towards providing a high standard of meals. A list of all those involved is available on the Waterside Free Meals Support Facebook group. e group are thrilled to con rm that the free school meals project in the Waterside area will return in December with e Lovely Little café, Harveys of Hythe and Fawley Express in partnership with e Fawley Falcon. With regard to the Lovely Little Café hot meals, due to the volume expected both Donna at Oyster and Martin at the Café will be providing a menu ordering form system so that parents can order the weeks meals in advance. ey will be working with e Handy Trust and Schools and will update the information on the Facebook page. e Handy Trust is a local non-pro t organisation providing a youth support service to local communities for young people and families. ey work closely with Schools in the area and have relationships with various other organisations. is year Fawley Youth Workers & Gang Warily Scout & Guide HQ will be working in partnership with e Handy Trust to help even more this year. Looking ahead toward Christmas they will be helping The Lovely Little Café in Dibden Purlieu e Fawley Events Committee would like to announce with a heavy heart that the Fawley Winter Wonderland Event this year will not take place. ey have checked options and studied COVID- 19 guidelines and consider it too much of a health risk to the committee, volunteers and the general public to arrange a large gathering at this time. ey will decorate Jubilee Hall (with kind permission of Fawley Parish Council) with Festive lights and a tree, (kindly donated by Cadland Estate). ey hope this will bring some joy to the children at this time of year. ey have also made a donation to the Christmas re engine, and wish them all the best and hopefully next year they can work together to put Fawley Winter Wonderland back on the map. e Fawley Events Committee, who are all volunteers, would like to wish everyone on the Waterside a Happy Christmas and a safe and healthy 2021.
