Ashleigh explains: “The Hythe Ferry is ‘no longer just at risk’ - It WILL close for good in the next few months unless we help. The local community have blown me away with their generosity. But it’s so much bigger than £60,000, this is about sustainability. This is about how the NFDC and Southampton City council will meet their carbon neutral pledge. We need the council, the government, the big businesses that rely on the ferry to step up and act. We do face challenges and we do face negativity, but this is simply not just a ferry crossing, this is a site of national heritage. The ferry, pier and train must be supported to ensure it is around for generations to come”. Blue Funnel Ferries Owner Lee Rayment said: “ Sincere thanks to Ashleigh and those who have donated. Our current situation is that we cannot start the ferry at the easing of lockdowns without some form of significant financial assistance. “Sadly, we don’t have any money left to get started and cannot re-launch the service without securing the future of the ferry. As with all passenger boats, there are items that must be updated for her to be certified safe to operate – these upgrades are a must as they have been pushed back from last year. We are still waiting to hear about financial assistance from the Councils and Solent LEP but in the meantime please keep supporting us, and if you have contacts with any other business that could help with finances or services, then we would be incredibly grateful.” Keep up-to-date with developments by following Blue Funnel Ferries on Facebook or to donate visit: www.crowdfunder.co.uk/savethehytheferry YOUR FERRY NEEDS YOU! Continued from front page Welcome Back Cadland As children up and down the country returned to school, Cadland Primary had an extra special guest to greet everyone on their first Monday morning (8th March). Goofy was on hand to welcome families back to school making sure he stopped and waved hello to all the children (and parents!). One parent commented: “Just when you think Cadland couldn’t get any higher in your estimations... great little touch! So many children looked so excited”. Another said: “Cadland, you rock!” Headteacher James Nutbeam said: “I couldn’t be happier to be welcoming all the children back to school and I was delighted to see so many happy, smiling faces and excited voices on Monday morning. It was the best possible start to the week!” Goofy with Louise Lush from Squirrels Class The ferries at the pier head
