Painted by one man over many years, the time has now come for him to part ways with some of his collection. 84 year old Mick Manuel is quite the artist, he admits to ‘not really having a style’ the pieces just ‘ ow out’ and many of his creations come from within his imagination. On visiting Mick’s ‘Garage Gallery’ it also struck me how deep rooted he is the local area, with beautiful watercolours of Lepe Country Park, the local wildlife and the New Forest National Park being an obvious inspiration to him. “It’s now time to part with some of my paintings”, explains Mick. “The walls of the garage are covered in framed originals, and I’ve got boxes and boxes of unframed pieces that deserve to be on display”. Having lived in the area all his life, Mick attended Fawley Infant School, and a er marrying his wife Sylvia they moved to Holbury in 1960 where they raised their two daughters. In between brush strokes you will nd Mick dabbling in his other passion, Golf – with art following when rain stops play! When asked what he would do with the freed up space upon selling his work he replied: “Probably paint some more!” and I think looking at his collection he won’t have a blank canvas for too long. The Garage Gallery will be holding Open Days on Saturday 7th, Tuesday 10th and Saturday 14th August between 10am and 2pm. Please contact Mick in advance on: 023 8084 2235 or email r iveregret10@gmai l . com so he can share his address with you prior to your visit.
