5th August 2021 • The HERALD • Page 43 v THE HERALD - ENCOURAGING LOCAL ENTERPRISE v WE CARE, YOU CARE Joyful JAMS Fundraiser Appeal We have all been a ected by the pandemic in some way or another. Elders in care homes especially have missed out on visits from loved ones and from groups like JAMS, or Joyful Arts Movement and Song to give them their full title. JAMS are a group of artists committed to creating joy with elders and those living with dementia in care across Hampshire and Norfolk. Sessions may include a combination of dance, music and song, reminiscence, theatre, and comedy to engage and upli participants. JAMS’ participatory dance and movement is incredibly special; it’s a relational art form that relies upon communication (o en non-verbal), trust, and a willingness to engage. All JAMS Facilitators adopt a person- centered approach. is means each session is unique and planned activities may go out the window at the last minute to adapt to the needs of the participant. Most importantly every individual is respected, and their contribution is valued no matter how small. During the last year JAMS have really missed seeing residents in person, but they’ve worked hard to ensure they can continue to provide entertainment for them, including Covid-safe resource boxes that contain everything care homes need to continue providing great inclusive and creative care in these challenging times. ey’ve also created Pictures of You, a mini- lm consisting of 6 short vignette pieces that work either as stand-alone pieces or viewed together. JAMS are fundraising so they can continue to build on these projects and others. e total amount needed to run these for a year is £25,000. And while they have potential funders in place for the work, there’s a shortfall of £2,500. To raise the de cit JAMS have set up a fundraiser. If someone you love has been affected, please consider donating to this worthy cause. www.localgiving.org/appeal/ Joyfuljamsprovidingsafeentertainment or visit their website: www.joyfuljams. co.uk Joyful Jams create fun & engaging activities for care home residents Ahead of welcoming its rst residents later this year, Places for People Living Plus, has unveiled two immersive new videos showing prospective customers around Nightingale Lodge in Romsey.
