The Wheels to Work Wheels to Work scheme makes employment more accessible project supports local young people aged between 16 and 25 with a low- priced moped loan so they can more easily attend work, apprenticeships, training, or job interviews. ere is a small weekly hire charge and the moped loan is for up to a year. e scheme includes training, vehicle insurance and tax, a helmet and lock, plus servicing. Kickstart jobs are paid six-month job placements for 16 to 24 year olds who are on Universal Credit and at risk of long term unemployment. e roles include placements in a variety of assistant level council roles in administration, cleaning, vehicle workshop, streetscene, enforcement, and civic buildings. Successful applicants will have on-the-job training and learn skills to help when applying for other jobs. Cllr David Russell, NFDC’s portfolio holder for people and places, said, “ The moped scheme means a young person can get to employment, as lack of access to transport can be a real barrier. We must increase young people’s chances of employment and I am pleased we ourselves have six jobs that are specifically for young people, which will give them skills that will last a lifetime.” Community First say, “ Most of our hirers work in the hospitality or care industries, with the shift work and unsocial hours associated with these. In addition to this, they’re mostly rural locations and the lack of public transport at the right times makes W2W an ideal solution, meaning that they can arrive at work safely on time.” For details on the moped loan scheme and how to apply, see: www. c rst.org.uk/community-transport/ wheels-to-work All current NFDC jobs are at: www.newforest.gov . uk/jobs (for Kickstart jobs use ‘kickstart’ in the search)
