A er a tough 36 holes she said in her winners speech: ‘It felt as though I had played an extra 9 holes as the course conditions were so difficult’. With torrential rain earlier in the week and that mornings downpour the course proved a challenge for all the competitors. Despite that, some good scores were posted and spirits were still high when the trophies were presented by club president Mary Annetts. Champion - Best Gross Score of 149 Sue Lewis. In a very close competition congratulations go to Sue and Margaret the winning team. Meanwhile on the 9 Hole short course the medal competition saw Pat Greenham winning by one shot over Pearl Hansford . In third place was Cilla Woodason. On what was eventually another beautifully warm sunny day, 32 New Forest Golf Club Seniors battled in this stableford trophy competition o the white tees. In almost perfect gol ng conditions, Division 1’s Laurie Burn shot 3 birdies and 11 pars, accumulating 39 points to win the Harold Hewitt trophy. Terry Jones in Division 2 was very close behind with his score of 38 points. Top scores; Div 1: 1st - Laurie Burn 39 pts, 2nd - Richard Hammond 36 pts, 3rd - Barry Nicholas 36 pts; Div 2: 1st - Terry Jones 38 pts, 2nd - Hugh Marchant 34 pts, 3rd - Dave Barrett 33 pts. However, thirty brave souls took to the course for a social medal game and the results were as follows: Division One: 1st Brian Denham , 2nd Edward Piggin , 3rd Brian Lewis ; Division Two: 1st Eddie Ford , 2nd John Bailey , 3rd Ronald Gooding . With the Monday competition cancelled some of their seniors attended other clubs to play in some di erent competitions. ey are pleased to report that they did their club proud and achieved some success. Rob Hallett, Johnny Hopper, Stuart Bulbrooke and Brian Lewis came 2nd in the Wareham Texas scramble on Friday 11th June and Rob Hallett, Johnny Hooper and Brian Lewis came 4th in the Ashley Wood Bowmaker on ursday 24th June, winning a total of £250 worth of vouchers and 4 bottles of red wine between them. On ursday 1st July a team from Bramshott Hill Seniors hosted a Seniors team from Ryde on the Isle of Wight at Dibden Golf Course. e weather gremlins had a day o and the weather was ne and dry for most of the day. A er some very close fought battles Bramshott Hill won the match by three and a half games to two and a half. ere followed a splendid dinner and various stories of how holes could have been won if only the putt had gone in, or how a tree interfered with a wonderful drive etc. All participants thoroughly enjoyed the day and look forward to the return match at Ryde in early September. Bramshott Hill Seniors team v Ryde Southampton’s Champion Canoeists Four Hundred Paddlers from all over the country met in Nottingham for the National Canoe Sprint Championships over the 3rd and 4th July, on a warm but stormy weekend with some very fast times. Southampton Canoe Club sent a team of 12 juniors and Vets to race in singles, Doubles and Fours over 200, 500 and 1000m and they came home successful! Xavier Hinves competed in under 18 singles, and doubles with Partner Zac Tarver from Elmbridge CC. ese races were over 500m & 1000m. He also took part in the 500m in a four and came home as National Champion in each race and now stands a good chance of being selected for international racing at the World Championships in September. Richard Kent and Ade Butt raced in the Over 54 class and came home with a gold in 500m and 1000m Doubles, plus a range of other medals in the single events. Andre Hinves, Nathaniel Lamb, Fletcher Cramer, Damon Grimsey and James Hinves also came home with at least one medal. With most of the Southampton team scoring either Personal or Season bests. Southampton Canoe Club is currently running taster sessions for those who wish to get involved. Conditions were almost perfect for producing steady golf. Mike Broom won the Division 1 medal with a nett score of 68 just pipping Laurie Burn to the post on countback while Ken Scott came third with nett 69. In Division 2, Neil Edmondson stormed ahead Brave Efforts from Lupton and Tabor Blustery strong winds and heavy skies on Tuesday 6th July threatened to make this a game of endurance, but in the end, 34 New Forest Golf Club Seniors emerged reasonably unscathed weather-wise. e Frampton Cup is a club-wide stableford competition o the white tees and the Men’s section had already set a very high bar at the weekend making 42 points the score to beat. In Division 1, Steve Lupton made valiant e orts scoring 40 points including 2 birdies and 8 pars, while in Division 2; Charlie Tabor’s 7 pars helped him to a score of 39 points. In the end no Frampton Cup trophy for the seniors but still excellent scoring with nett 65, with M a l c o l m Guy and H u g h M a r c h a n t coming 2nd and 3rd respectively on nett 66. Medal winners Mike Broom and Neil Edmondson in what were quite challenging conditions. Results:- Division 1: 1st – Steve Lupton 40 points, 2nd – Ken Scott 39 points, 3rd – Jim Worsley 36 points; Division 2: 1st – Charlie Tabor 39 points, 2nd – Ian Tyrrell 38 points, 3rd – Ian Hall 37 points.
