Blue- lighted to Southampton General Hospital Lucy spent two weeks on the High Dependency Unit (HDU) being treated for severe pneumonia caused by the Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV). Lucy was admitted to hospital again in January 2018, spending another week in HDU ghting the same illness – At that point Lucy’s parents Lisa and Simon had no idea that the illness would leave their daughter’s lungs scarred, which ultimately le Lucy dealing with Brittle Asthma, a rare form of severe asthma. Managing Lucy’s asthma is a daily challenge and can be di cult to control, relying on daily inhaled steroids as well as oral steroids for when her asthma ares up. Lucy is also dependant on Ventolin inhalers to relieve the symptoms of living with the disease. Lisa, Lucy’s Mum goes on to say: “Asthma UK have been fantastic in helping and offering medication advice and along with her consultant at the General we have been very well supported to get Lucy to where she is now.
