Having spent her childhood learning the tricks of the trade from her Carpenter/ Handyman Father, Chris certainly has a air for DIY and is a dab-hand around the house with a power tool or two! Chris explains: “Many of the clients I would visit previously needed the odd job doing around the house, perhaps putting up a curtain pole, fixing skirting boards, putting up shelving, flat pack assembly (I DO follow the instructions!) and they would often struggle to find someone for the ‘small’ jobs’. A high number of my clients also really struggled to find a female handyperson too, so I started offering my services and well, the business grew from there.” When Chris’s Father Den, passed away recently, she inherited all his well-loved tools and made the decision to put his knowledge, teachings, and attention to detail to good use by following him in his handy footsteps. Chris covers all the areas within the Herald distribution area and prides herself on a job well done and is a stickler for perfection. So, for a reliable, trustworthy friendly, ex-army local Handywoman who gets the job done and is DBS checked, then look no further. To see how Chris can get your home ‘Christmas-ready’ by ticking o some of those ‘little’ jobs, get in touch on: 07879 882891 or email: handywomanchris1@gmail.com One Handy-Woman to Know! In today’s world, many of us are trying to work out how we can explore new places but ensure we preserve the culture, beauty and wildlife we travel to enjoy. With high visitor numbers negatively impacting cultural attractions and eco-systems; poorer communities o en excluded from receiving tourism dollars; and fossil fuels from major cruise and air lines polluting the environment, it’s a tough issue. One of the simplest answers is to travel less. However, for many this is not ideal as we are still keen to discover more of the world; and travel can o er many bene ts to host communities, through cultural understanding, your investment helps to conserve wildlife, nature and traditional cra s, and creates jobs in rural communities. So here are 8 ways to embrace the sustainable traveller within you: 1. If you need to y to your destination, y direct and choose a greener, direct commercial airline (yes there are some). 2. If you love the water – try sailing rather than cruising. 3. Ask your travel agent/operator where your ticket money goes - who is bene tting? Eco-labels can be hard to verify, so be sure to do your research. 4. Seek out local experiences where you feel con dent locals will bene t. 5. Forget air-conditioning, opt for accommodation with fans. 6. Pack biodegradable shampoo, soap, creams in reusable plastic containers. 7. Enjoy local food and drinks that haven’t been imported. 8. Pack light – wash and wear as you go. Lighter luggage reduces your footprint.
