He’d been unwell for two weeks, presenting with swollen glands, a cough and di culty swallowing, and was initially thought to be su ering with a viral chest infection. On admission to hospital Ben underwent a chest x-ray, which identi ed a 13.5cm mass in his chest. A biopsy was performed, bone marrow sample taken and CT scan carried out (which identi ed numerous lymphomas and uid around the heart and lungs). Ben was then transferred to PICU and put on non-invasive ventilation and intensive chemotherapy. e initial treatment saved his life.
