Set up to preserve the history of the British Fire Service, the museum boasts over 200 artefacts of re ghting history including 17th century re buckets from the era of the Great Fire of London, re engines from across the decades as well as re ghting uniforms from the 17th century to the present day. e Fire Brigade Museum is operated entirely by volunteers who are serving or ex 999 workers, families or enthusiasts, all with a passion to support the Museum and its three vital social objectives: 1) To support 999 workers su ering from mental illness such as PTSD through support schemes and payment for treatment. 2) To support young people aged 12-25 su ering from severe con dence issues, mental illness or special educational needs through a wide range of work streams including apprenticeships, work placements, jobs, volunteering opportunities and a tailored re cadet scheme. 3) To combat loneliness and isolation through volunteering schemes. ere are multiple options for volunteers from museum guides, restoration, education, outreach and potentially mentoring of apprentices. If you are interested in volunteering please email: rebrigademuseum@gmail.com e Museum will have a special exhibition running Inside the Museum from 31st May–5th June in celebration of the Queen’s Jubilee, showcasing photographs of when Her Majesty has inspected re ghters throughout her reign from opening Fire Service buildings to o ering words of support to re ghters a er awful disasters such as the Grenfell Tower tragedy. ere will also be a range of artefacts such as medals awarded by Her Majesty to Fire Service personnel, including e Fire Brigade Long Service and Good Conduct Medal and the Queen’s Gallantry medal. e museum is located at Unit B4/B5, Manor Nursery, Romsey SO51 0NB and is open Friday- Sunday 10am-4pm and daily during the school holidays.
