It is believed that this will be the rst time, such a journey on horseback has been made by a vet riding solo and Kate promises to share her veterinary insights into the well-being of her horse (and herself) along the way via her facebook page: facebook.com/gbvettrek Kate is hoping to raise money for national charity Pets As erapy who strive to ensure that everyone, no matter their circumstances, has access to the companionship of an animal to improve their own health and well-being. Her second charity is Vetlife, a charity that is close to her heart, that provide a helpline, along with nancial and health support to the veterinary profession which sadly has one of the highest suicide rates of the professions. Kate and her sta were supported through a di cult time by the charity in recent years and she would like to raise funds so that they can continue to help others in need. Kate comments: “The recent pandemic has made me realise ‘life is short’, it’s easy to get wrapped up in work, and forget the importance of ‘living’. I’ve been so busy having my head down that I forgot to look up and I’ve suddenly found that I am 50 years young! How did that happen? But by coincidence I now also have the most beautiful Palomino horse that I bred myself and who would be a perfect companion for my riding adventure of a lifetime and to help me to raise much needed funds for two very special charities.” To nd out more about Kate’s challenge visit her website: vettrek.uk or if you would like to sponsor Kate please visit her Just Giving page: justgiving.com/team/ gbvettrek LOCAL VET STARTS 1,300 MILE SOLO CHALLENGE ON HORSEBACK Continued from front page Walk for Hope is Back!
