On Saturday 11th June Abby’s Heroes will be holding a Dragon Boat Festival at Hythe Marina from 10am – 3pm. As well as the exciting races, there will be food stalls for a fabulous day out for all the family. Or why not compete yourself - teams are made up to 16 people paddling with a drummer at the front beating time and a helm (supplied by Dragon Boat Events) at the tail steering Look Out for Dragons in the Water in Hythe! Online Quiz Raises Over £1,000 for Ukraine Following the success of their online quizzes during the pandemic, David and Jan Morris recently decided to run an online quiz to raise funds for the Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal. e fundraiser was a huge success with £1,075 raised. David and Jan are expert quiz masters, having run quizzes at various local pubs for over 12 years. When the pandemic hit they ran online quizzes during the lockdowns, nominating local charities for voluntary contributions with over £13,500 raised. ey both thought their quiz days were over but seeing the plight of the people of Ukraine made them think again. David set about writing the questions and he took up the role of quizmaster on the night, with Jan’s help; approximately 100 people taking part via their Facebook page. Participants were not only local but as far a eld as Scotland and even Lanzarote. e quiz itself was free to enter with voluntary donations invited. a straight course. No previous experience is required, just plenty of team spirit! Anyone can take part over the age of 12 and able to sit unaided in the boat – lifejackets will be provided. All proceeds from the day will go towards supporting children and young people diagnosed with cancer, together with their families.
