To enquire in the first instance, please email: schooltransportsouthampton@gmail.com No words can describe The horrors of war The awful things happening Outside of front doors Oppression regression Conquer defend Where unlimited loss Is just fodder to spend Missiles directed Guns to the fore Soldiers each ready To root out the core Underneath that slab of concrete was an air raid shelter Left over from the war. We broke a hole in the top and had a look inside Where we expected it to smell dank But we didn’t expect the smell to be so bad For if l’m totally honest, it really really stank It seemed that when the war was over And they didn’t need it as a shelter any more They used it as a cesspit And we all know what that was for. So our dreams of having a man cave, Like so many dreams seldom do come true They end up as pipe dreams Or as in our case they get flushed down the loo. We thought we’d get into gardening And grow our own veg, But first we had to prepare the ground And get rid of that old hedge. My husband started with a spade And began to remove the turf, Only to find that hidden, by the brambles Was a great big pile of earth. He dug away at the soil And then he shouted come see what l’ve found, A great big slab of concrete Was buried under ground. I hurried over to have a look And couldn’t believe what I saw, We are all so lucky to live where we are… From wherever we live the forests not far.. The Beach also may be just a stones throw away, There are so many places to go for the day! Out on the heathland forest ponies do roam, This is their territory, this is their home! Strong and hardy, all weathers they cope… And that they stay safe is all we can hope! The donkeys too with their cheeky ways! Their multi coloured coats or brown and grey, On the high street they stand outside shops… Tourists with cameras can’t help but stop! The cows with their calves move slowly in time, They really don’t care about the traffic behind! So close to car windows they stare right in, All you can do is look back and grin! Even when there are no animals to see, The scenery you can see is just a dream, The heathers colours of purple and pink, The gorse in yellow - you just stare and think.. With all these colours that can be quite bold, It’s called the New Forest, but it’s really quite old! To be able to live here with all of this beauty, To keep it this way is everyone’s duty! SO LUCKY TO LIVE HERE by Margaret Bell He’s at last found his mate! But all things are noted In the great book of life Each heroic action Or a weakness for strife For the persons responsible Lies a fate worse than death Too late for sorry’s As they sigh a last breathe! THE AIR RAID SHELTER by Vic Lee TEARS ON WET PILLOWS by David K Wilson Lives by the million Each torn apart Tears on wet pillows Cried from the heart No man can justify What the killings are for All the might and the power Outside those front doors The world watches on And silently waits While the devil smiles greedily
