As lime is the carver’s wood of choice they felt this would be the ideal tree to re ect the group’s activity – but they are not expecting to cut it down and carve it just yet! e lime tree was recently planted in the grounds of Gang Warily Recreation Centre and will look magni cent in about 20 years time! Many thanks are due to Jason Mansbridge of Fawley Parish Council for identifying a suitable location and to club member Paul Humphriss who did all the research and made it happen. Left to Right: Jason Mansbridge – Grounds Manager, Gang Warily, Paul Humphriss – Waterside Woodcarvers tutor, Di Smith – Waterside Woodcarvers Chair and Fawley Parish Councillor Barry Coyston Seahorses Spotted on the Waterside Nearly 40 club members and family attended the Waterside Woodcarvers’ annual Christmas social at St Andrew’s. It proved to be a busy and entertaining a ernoon. A quiz and game of Giant Pass the Pig kept everyone on their toes (or trotters). Everyone enjoyed a wonderful bu et provided by some of the members and there was also a huge ra e and a sales table of tools, timber and books. e December social also hosted the results of the much anticipated Wood Block Challenge. is year the theme chosen was ‘sea creatures’ and everyone started with a 9x4x2” block of lime. e table was adorned with mermaids, an eel, sea otter, turtle, seashells and lots of sea horses! e winner of the Novice class was Chris Challis with a ne upstanding seahorse; winner in the Experienced class was Allan Mechen with a humorous and detailed composition of a mermaid and various sea creatures called ‘Underwater Card School’. e club holds fortnightly workshops, Chair Di Smith presenting the winners cup to Allan Mechen 6pm-8pm, at Noadswood School, starting on 12th January.
