Students from Totton College worked closely with the local council and the community to inspiration take us in so many different, fun directions. We had our set-backs along the way, with Covid pausing the project and having to start again with a new group of students, and various back and forths to get permissions and funding in place. So many people have been involved in this project - it really has been a community effort! I’d like to give especially big thanks to Art Tutor Clayton Lovell Left to Right: Councillor Neville Penman, Councillor Amy Hardingson, the mural artist Ceara Taggart, and Totton College Art Tutor Clayton Lovell at the mural unveiling research and develop design ideas for the mural. e nal designs were then shortlisted and put to an online public vote. Ceara Taggart’s design featuring local scenery and wildlife was chosen as the winner with over 600 votes from local people, her mural now takes pride of place brightening up the station and greeting train passengers. Councillor Amy Hardingson commented: “This project has had a lot of love and perseverance poured into it. It was an absolute joy working with all the students at Totton College on developing designs, and seeing for leading this project at Totton College and to Paula Aldridge at South Western Railway for supporting us every step along the way to get all the paperwork signed off. Thanks also go to Totton and Eling Town Council, PhotoSolutions, Avon Construction, Totton College, South Western Railway, Network Rail, and to everyone who took part in our public consultation and public vote to help develop and choose the artwork.” A small group of enthusiastic people meet at Soul Café, North Road, Dibden Purlieu at 7.30pm on the first Tuesday of each month (excluding the month of August).
