A full house was treated, under the competent baton of Catherine Gosney, to Tchaikowsky’s Nutcracker as well as given the chance to sing carols with the orchestra. Highlights of the a ernoon concert were two exceptional young soloists. Firstly, Rosa Sparks, who is currently studying in Manchester, entertained everyone with her beautiful rendition of Mozart’s Exultate Jubilate. Her powerful and sweet voice certainly reached to the ra ers to huge audience applause. Rose Gosney, who is a member of the National Youth Orchestra and is currently in her rst year at Peter Rosa Sparks Rose Gosney Symonds College, played a notoriously di cult piece called Tzigane by Ravel. She played this piece with de nite panache making the harmonics and double stopping seemingly e ortless. e orchestra accompanied both of these soloists which was an excellent experience for an amateur orchestra. A member of the audience who had come over from Chandlers Ford said: “It was a really special afternoon. We really enjoyed it. A er a busy a ernoon touring the village and meeting excited local children he made his way back across the water and onto the North Pole.
