Over the year, Gary took on a range of fundraising challenges, with the most di cult being the Arch to Arc triathlon, also known as the ‘hardest triathlon in the world’ in June. In this challenge, Gary ran 83 miles from London to Dover, rowed more than 21 miles across the English Channel, and cycled 186 miles to Paris. Other events have included cycling more than the height of Everest in the Alps, an ultra marathon, a kayak marathon and three running marathons. Gary was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2015, and has since focused his e orts on raising awareness and funds for the condition, becoming a trustee of Parkinson’s UK in 2018, and then Chair of the Board in October 2019. raising awareness of the condition, fundraising for Parkinson’s UK, and also feeling more in control of my Parkinson’s. The wonderful atmosphere of both reminded me how fortunate I’ve been to keep running these distances. The winning times for men and women in Valencia were incredible and we’re making strides towards the first official sub two hour marathon. Its committed volunteers – many of whom have a personal experience of cancer, play a key role in supporting local people living with cancer and the Support Centre is now looking to grow its team.
