Over the last two years (2021 and 2022) Patricia has researched and written 32 ‘Tales’. e rst 16 of which were published in the book, with the aim of keeping the pro le of the beautiful old church in Fawley in the mind of the public. e sale of the book has raised £800 for charity, with Solent Rescue based at Lepe, and Living with Loss, the bereavement service provided by New Forest Funerals based in Fawley, each chosen to receive a £400 donation. At the presentation Patricia thanked everyone who had encouraged and helped her throughout the years and those who so generously shared their family stories and memories in order to remind people that everyone buried or interred in the graveyard had a life and a story. e Right Honourable Dr Julian Lewis MP attended the presentation and also made a short speech. Gilly Drummond OBE, presented a cheque for £400 to four members of the Solent Rescue team who arrived by rescue boat, wearing their full kit! Local Councillor, Alexis McEvoy, presented another £400 cheque to Martin Masters for Living with Loss. e event was also attended by Louise Kitcher and her husband Mark representing e Herald, Mike McEvoy, Alexis’ husband who kindly took photos of the event and Patricia’s husband David. anks were also given to John Brown of TLC publishing based at Calshot and to Mark and Leonie of the Jolly Sailor for the excellent provision of food and drink. Patricia’s book is still available from The Herald office for £4. LOCAL RNLI STALWART RETIRES AFTER 25 YEARS! RNLI Hythe and Calshot fundraising branch are sad to announce that, a er a whopping 25 years, branch treasurer, Jenny Croxson, has decided to step down from the Committee at their next AGM. Jenny attended her rst Committee meeting back in December 1997 and very quickly became an invaluable member of the branch. Besides her role as the longstanding branch treasurer, Jenny has also held various roles at the RNLI Calshot Station over the years. A natural organiser, Jenny would o en be front and centre at the annual Great Waterside Ra Race, station open days, quizzes, carpet races and tea stalls, making sure operations were going well and volunteers – and the money – were being looked a er. Branch Press O cer, Dan Poole says: “It is truly remarkable that Jenny has been at the heart of the local RNLI for a quarter of a century. There’s not much which has happened in that time that she’s not been involved in: whether it has been keeping the accounts, co-ordinating fundraising events or getting the Betty’s 5p Pots initiative off the Presentation of the cheque at the Jolly Sailor ground here, Jenny has been at the centre of it. I have been looking for photos of her through the years and we’ve got surprisingly few – and that’s because she never stays still for long enough!” Jenny will be much-missed and the Committee are most grateful for all she and husband, Geo , have done over the years. ey wish them both all the very best for the future.
