England Rocks required children to correctly answer as many multiplication and division questions as possible, to give their class and school the best chance of winning. e competition was erce with 170,779,965 questions answered collectively by 704,979 pupils from more than 3,906 schools and 82,483 classes around the country! Not only that but Waterside came 1st out of 249 nearby Primary schools (within a 50 mile radius). Waterside’s school stats were astonishing too. On average their top class answered 1,700 questions correctly per pupil, with the best performing pupil, Tyler Shaw, answering an amazing 11,360 questions correctly in total. eir top class, Year 6, scored 102,139. Tyler Shaw says: “The competition was great fun, it made more people active in their times tables wanting to learn them more and I’m proud of our position.” Bruno Reddy, creator of TT Rock Stars says: “The pupils excelled themselves throughout England Rocks. Not only did they engage in some friendly competition Tyler Shaw but there were also some clear improvements in their recall and speed as time went on. That’s always been our goal - to make learning maths basics so fun that pupils give it their all.” Headteacher Mrs Moakes comments: “This is a huge achievement and demonstrates the commitment and resilience of Waterside pupils, as well as celebrating their mental maths skills.” Warm Spaces in Blackfield, Dibden Purlieu and Fawley With the cost-of-living crisis a ecting millions across the country, many say they can’t a ord to switch on the heating in the coming months. A network of churches, bus inesses and organisations are opening their doors to provide warmth, welcome and shelter. Blackfield Baptist Church will be opening their doors weekly on Thursday and Friday from 10am to 4pm. Go along and keep warm. ere will be refreshments, board games to play or just meet up with friends. Dibden Churches aim to open up e Co ee House in Dibden Purlieu weekly on Mondays, 10am-4pm. eir warm space will provide a welcoming space with free Wi-Fi and charging points, plus refreshments, jigsaws and board games.
