And now with its new social business e Real Jam and Chutney Company, Minstead Trust will be making essential changes to how the walled vegetable garden is run so that people like Emily will be able to sow, tend, grow and harvest produce that will be used as fresh ingredients for the Jams and Chutneys. Emily is one of the people supported by the Trust and she really enjoys working in the gardens. e people who work and tend to the gardens have learning disabilities and they will have the opportunity of being actively involved in the business, contributing to the success of the Real Jam and Chutney Company. Minstead Trust took over the business in late 2022 when the owners were retiring. In all, the Trust is looking to raise £2000. If more is raised, the extra funds will help to support training and skills development in more of the Trust’s social businesses – helping people with learning disabilities. Lesley Brooks, fundraising co-ordinator at the Trust says: “The local community has always been so supportive of our work, for which we are always grateful. Josh is the apprentice chef and the business also o ers volunteering, training, and work experience opportunities on the Trust’s Step up for Work programme for people with learning disabilities. Josh says about his new role in the kitchens at Minstead Lodge “I have always wanted to be a chef and now I am learning how to do that”.
