Gardening Time is Here Again by Vic Lee I suppose it’s time to go to work in the garden And pull out all the weeds Then trim back all the branches Of the overhanging trees Then I’ll have to clear under the bushes and the scrubs Among the stinging nettles, brambles and the docks And risk cutting my knees on broken bottles And lumps of jagged rocks I really do not like gardening Why? I really don’t know Perhaps it was the accident I had when I broke my nose When as a kid I stood upon a hoe Putting all my fears to one side I pulled on my welly boots And going into the long grass I tripped over some half buried roots Falling straight down on my face I bashed my nose on a stone sticking out of the ground Only to hear my wife shout that stones got a hole in it It’s a lucky stone you’ve found
