Rotarians then went on a walk around the centre including the farm and orchard, seeing the animals and the vast array of produce that is grown there. Before leaving for a local pub meal, immediate past President Ray Lewis, presented the CET with a Hythe & Waterside Rotary donation of £500 and wished them every success with their future events. Rotarians watch Ray Lewis present the cheque donation. Successful First Repair Café for Waterside They did it! The first Waterside Repair Café was a success and some very happy customers left with repaired items, given a new lease of life by the wonderful team of repairers. Customers were wating at the door from 10am ready for their 10.30am opening. The first repairs to leave the building were a set of 1970’s musical Christmas toys. Within 20 minutes a very happy customer was on her way home with singing and dancing toys, ready to hand down to her daughter. Other repairs included printers, blenders, lamps, cushion covers, a game controller and much more. They even took in a generator from the Hythe Fire Engine Charity, which when repaired will be donated to the Ukrainian Appeal. The volunteers repaired twelve out of seventeen items, saving 230kg of CO2 emissions. That is the equivalent to the emissions generated by watching 406 days of television non-stop. With funding from local Councillor Matthew Hartman, the organisers have been busy promoting the Repair Café and recruiting volunteers. Now, it is time to establish the café as a regular event on the Waterside offering repairs of small household items and textiles to local people. If you have an item sitting at home, not working, take it along on the last Saturday of each month. Their volunteers will do their best to repair it, and if they can’t they will advise you on the best way to dispose of it. The Repair Café takes place on the last Saturday of each month at Blackfield Baptist Church Hall, Hampton Lane, Blackfield. Doors open at 10.30am last repair checked in at 1pm.
