Several members were on hand to demonstrate carving and pyrography techniques and to answer the many questions. A range of beautiful carved birds, brooches, earrings, boots (yes boots) and assorted other items were on sale too. In previous years visitors were encouraged to vote for Best in Show from a choice of about 200 carvings and there were cries of “it’s impossible to choose”. So this year the club decided to invite visitors to select their favourite from a small selection of about 20 carvings on one table. Even that was a challenge. But over 70 people did vote and the clear favourite was Allan Mechen’s ‘ ree Bears’, closely followed by Pippa Smith’s elephant and Dorothy Lockyer’s inkwell and quill. e prize draw for a carved king sher was won by Mark Baker. e fortnightly club workshops at Noadswood School started again on ursday 7th September but at the new later time of 6.30pm to 8.30pm. e next one will be Thursday 21st September. New members are welcome. ere will be a September social on Friday 15th September, 7-9pm at St Andrews. Some members will answer the question: ‘How did you do that?’ Everyone is looking forward to gleaning hints and tips on what gadgets and gismos can be created or used to deal with those awkward areas or to achieve particular e ects on carvings. ere will also be a chance for members to tell others ‘My other hobby is....’. The trip included v i s i t ing the Edinburgh Military Tattoo & Festival, the Trossachs, a trip on Loch Katrine and a ride on the Falkirk Wheel and 15 members had tea on the Royal Yacht Britannia. Everyone enjoyed the whole experience and they are now planning another ‘experience’ for 2024. TSu3a Scotland ‘23 Falkirk wheel
