Entrants were challenged to design and build a soapbox and race it down the hill pass the pub and ending with a big splash into the Solent! A special footbridge bridge was erected across the road outside the pub giving safe access for pedestrians between the pub and the spectators viewing area in the pub garden. e event was well attended despite the dreadful weather on the day. e fastest time achieved on the day was 15.06 seconds by Andrew and George Kitcher in their soapbox, ‘Fawley yer’. £409 was raised on the day which was topped up to £600 by the Jolly Sailor, plus a late donation of £20 meant a nal total of £620 raised for Maggie’s in Southampton. e Jolly Sailor are already making plans for their next soapbox race which will take place on Boxing Day – keep an eye on the pubs Facebook page for more details: www.facebook.com/AshlettCreekJollySailor For more information about Maggie’s Southampton please visit: www.maggies.org/our-centres/maggiessouthampton JUNKYARD CHALLENGE AT LEPE Join Lepe Country Park for a Junkyard Challenge, on Sunday 17th September at 10.30am and 2.30pm. Race against the clock and other teams to build a beach themed construction entirely out of recycled materials. When you arrive you will be split into teams. You’ll then be given some time to select your recycled building materials and plan your project before a timer is started. You will have 30 minutes to build your beach themed models. Do you have what it takes to be a master builder? Some recycled materials will be provided, but bring along your own as well to give you and your team the upper hand. is is a free event but spaces are limited so prebooking is essential.
