Also I was starting to hu and pu up the hills on the golf course. As I have had previous back surgery I didn’t want to put too much weight on my joints and wanted to look a er them as I get older. I didn’t actually want to go to the group the rst week as I wasn’t sure it would be any good for me talking to other people who were also overweight, as I thought all we would be talking about was food and I didn’t want to think about food all the time. Boy, was I in for a surprise, not only did I enjoy listening to the group leader, but hearing how other people were coping or not during the week, helped me to understand the plan and also to keep motivated each week. I even found I was looking forward to getting weighed each week to see how I was doing. e food plan was really easy to understand and you don’t have to think about food all the time, as I had found on di erent diets over the years. ere is always plenty to eat and no need to feel hungry, not that I ever ate when I was hungry before, I just was and still am addicted to food, but now I make good choices. Basically I can eat almost anything but cut down on cooking with oil and fat, using a low-cal alternative. I feel great now, and I have more con dence in my own skin. I used to hate having photographs taken but now I don’t mind. Also I can go into the changing rooms in shops and not cry at what I was looking at in the mirror. One of the biggest gains is I can now kneel down on the oor with my grandchildren to play without pain in my knees.
