Now that we are o cially within the autumn season, more attention draws towards welcoming friends and family into our cosy homes. e Foresters Flower Club committee thought it would be nice to do some workshops sharing indoor and outdoor Christmas ideas. e workshops are Saturday 25th November with morning and a ernoon sessions. is will include refreshments and everything needed to make contemporary and, or, traditional outside and inside decorations will be provided. We hope that attendees will bring items of their choice to incorporate into the design and we can help bring this unique vision to life. In the meantime, don’t forget that we can cosy our homes by bringing the autumn colours in and dot various small glass vases and jars about our homes, (maybe in shades of orange, light green, and clear) some with candles and tea lights; some with sprigs of di erent shades of dried grasses; some containing autumn owers (preferably British grown) in natural autumn shades. Some examples of these are the gorgeous array of dahlias in autumn shades, bronze chrysanthemum blooms, peachy/orange roses, shades of orange and cream carnations, copper spray chrysanthemums. Maybe add some sage–green foliage e.g. eucalyptus, olive, sage leaves, and, as a contrast, some dark, green – r/yew/rosemary. If you e Totton and District Gardeners Society held their Summer Show on Saturday 12th August at e ree Score Club in Totton. It was a resounding success, the hall was lled with the scent of owers the tables laden with fruit and vegetables with the runner beans and french beans doing partially well. Refreshments with home baked cakes and drinks were served in the side room, there was a full tombola table and outside a well-stocked plant stall to entice passers-by, which did very well, the little bit of rain did not put people o , overall a very successful day. e principal awards for most points in the oral art want to light up your arrangement, include a “pop” of lime – mint, thyme, hebe etc. You may also add interest with berries and gourds when assembling your selection. Try to incorporate di erent shades, leaf and bloom sizes, stem lengths, materials (e.g. seedheads, dried and fresh materials), scents and glass “vases” and candleholders. You can use this idea on the windowsill, co ee table, or make a random display along the centre of the dinner table. Foam free, e ective, warm and elegant.
