Peter played drums for the band for 12 years. Peter was born on 21st November 1933 in Weston Hospital in Fulham - a hospital for Tropical Diseases - his mother was asked to name him a er the hospital as he was the only child to be born there. Peter was brought up in Kensington, attending Kensington Gardens School. At 4 years of age he was evacuated with all the school children to Devizes, Wiltshire. He was sent to a farm with two other boys who were brothers, where they all slept in the same double bed. eir main job was to collect the chicken eggs from around the elds and look a er the horses. He stayed at the farm for three and a half years, and returned for many years to help with the harvest. Returning to London, for bombs and doodle bugs, he joined the Scouts aged 11, then joined the St. John Ambulance aged 14. At 16 he got a job as an apprentice Telephone Engineer and also started piano lessons and drum lessons, inspired by Buddy Rich. He did National Service aged 18, with the Royal Army Medical Corps. en returned to telephone work, ending up running the control tower at London Fitzgerald, Billy Eckstein, Sarah Vaughan, Johnny Mathis and June Christy. Over the years Peter’s dreams were to have a farm, own a shop and run his own big band and he has achieved all 3! He had a small holding in Ascot, shops in Sunningdale and his band has been everywhere, nishing in Portsmouth outside the D-Day museum on the beach! In 2003 Peter married his wife Miss Terry Scott, a singer born locally in Jones Lane, Hythe. e couple got married in Hawaii, which unbeknown to them is where all the top musicians from the States retire! ey have had the privilege to perform with many and made friends in all the Jazz clubs in Hawaii – they say Stan Kenton’s trumpet player still plays a mean horn! Peter’s 90th Birthday Party was a wonderful success, with all 130 people attending having a really good time. Peter and Terry comment: “We would like to thank everyone who attended, the music from New Forest Brass Band was exceptional and we should be very proud to have them in the New Forest. Our neighbours were fantastic, helping with the set-up, the food, the clearing up afterwards, we also had some musicians play in the break and ‘Marilyn Munroe’ was a wow!!!” Airport, which is now Heathrow. From the age of 16 he would visit the Hammersmith Palace and became friends with Ted Heath, who would send him tickets to his shows in e London Palladium etc. Peter performed with his band at the U.S. Air Force Base in Ryslip. He saw many bands perform including: Glenn Miller, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Buddy Rich, Woody Herman, The Dorsey Brothers, Stan Kenton, Lionel Hampton, Lois Belson, John Wayne, Sammy Davis, Ella Left to Right: Peter Jones, Mike, Pete Weston and Pete’s son Michael Brass Band in party gear and mood
