Two gangs square o in a 1920s rivalry of Capone-ian standards. Dandy Dan’s gang has gotten the upper hand since obtaining the ‘splurge’ gun (a weapon that shoots whipped cream). Now, Fat Sam and his bumbling bu oons are in real trouble! Bugsy Malone, a one-time boxer, is thrust not-so-willingly into the limelight when he becomes the last chance that Fat Sam’s gang has of surviving. All Bugsy really wants to do is spend time with his new love, Blousey, but that just isn’t in the cards for our hero. Based on the classic Alan Parker movie Bugsy Malone which launched the careers of Scott Baio and Jodie Foster, this new production will feature over 150 talented young people from across our area. Michael Ockwell, May ower eatre Chief Executive said: “Last year, Mayflower Theatre celebrated 10 years of Summer Youth Projects which we started in 2013 with Bugsy Malone. Over the years we have had over 1,600 participants and we are excited to welcome a new cohort this year to star in the show where it all started. Audition registration is now open, and we look forward to seeing many new faces along with returnees at the auditions on 3rd March. Our team make the audition process fun and create an atmosphere where everyone can perform to their very best. I encourage anyone to register, come along, meet new friends and discover the pure joy of creating a new show.” Auditions are for young people aged 11 to 18 years and give them the opportunity to work together for two weeks with a professional creative team taking a show from the rst read through to nal performances. ese intensive rehearsal periods give a great opportunity to learn more about the performing arts whilst working towards a common goal and making new friends. ere February. Auditions will be held on Sunday 3rd March with recall auditions on Sunday 24th March. ere is a fee to take part in the project but bursary places are available and auditions are free.
