It struck Alan that although there is an AED (automated external de brillator) at the QEII he would not be sure how to use it. Mick Potter, Club Secretary followed up the article and contacted the New Forest Rotary Club to see where future courses were being held. Mick was contacted by the Rotary Clubs Co-Ordinator, Jane Wilson-Brown who explained the courses were organised with the Meon Valley Heart Start Charity, based at Bishop’s Waltham. ey provide the Trainers, who give their time voluntarily. Any monies raised at these events go directly to the charity to aid their running costs. Jane suggested if there was enough interest, they could hold an event at the QEII Pavilion. So things were set in motion. Fawley Parish Council kindly gave use of the Pavilion free of charge. Users of the Pavilion, Gang Warily and Parish Hall were invited to attend the event also posters were displayed in shops in Holbury, Black eld and Fawley. On the day, both sessions were well attended. e training was given by three Instructors, all highly experienced medics, telling the participants about CPR and how to operate a De brillator “ is is how it happens.” What to look out for, what to do next and “Don’t panic until a er”. People said a er the training, they felt more con dent should they ever need to help a person in cardiac arrest. Waterside Short Mat Bowls Club gave a donation of £50 to help this worthy cause.
