The Anchor & Hope continued to serve the local community for the next eighty three years, and even held Catholic 2024 marks 30 years of e Herald – Your Community Magazine! In April 1994, the rst issue of e Herald was published by Janice Taylor, with a focus on the local community o ering local businesses the opportunity to advertise at a reasonable rate and giving local clubs, groups and organisations a means of raising awareness of their activities and achievements within the community that they serve, 30 years on the focus of e Herald has remained rm and we are proud to continue to support our local community. e rst issue was 16 pages with an initial print run of 1,500 a month, covering Hythe and Dibden. e Herald is now published every 3 weeks, averaging around 80 pages per issue and distributed across the whole of the Waterside as well as Totton, Romsey, Wellow and North Baddesley, and communities in New Forest East including Lyndhurst, Beaulieu, Minstead, East Boldre and Pilley; available at a wide range of locations including community centres, shops, pubs, petrol stations, and other places where readers are able to pick up a free copy. anks to the team at Hobbs the Printers e Herald is also available as an online magazine. From what was very much a ‘one woman band’ back in 1994 when Janice Taylor rst established the magazine, it has grown into a real team e ort. First to come on board was Paula Adams who is now Herald Publishing’s Director, and is responsible for designing the adverts and also the nal page layouts ready for the printer, as well as handling the day-to-day accounts. When the business became a Limited Company, Janice’s son Andrew Longland was appointed as Managing Director and works mainly ‘behind the scenes’ keeping an eye on the management and nancial side of the company. e current Editor, Sarah Bartlett, joined the team 2 church services in one of the rooms during the pre-war period. However, as with so many pubs that have existed over the last few hundred years in the Waterside area, it was to close its doors for one last time, leaving just memories. e nal pint was pulled in the Anchor & Hope one late and raucous evening in October 1978. 30 Years Supporting Our Local Community! Celebrating 30 years of The Herald years ago and Advertising Executive, Sue Jones joined the team a year ago. Ensuring the magazine gets out on time across the ever increasing distribution area every three weeks is distributor James Shadick. Not forgetting our four pawed Recycling and Happiness Manager Max! Integral to the success of e Herald is the network of distribution points that make the popular community magazine available for the public to pick up; we thank them all for their continued support. We would also like to acknowledge the support, guidance and excellent service we receive from our printers, Tottonbased Hobbs the Printers, whom we have worked with for over 10 years and regard very much as part of our team. Everyone at e Herald would like to thank the local community, businesses and organisations for your continued support and loyalty.
