Soup & Sweet Soup & Sweet at Trinity Church, Hazel Farm Road, Totton, SO40 8WU takes place on the 3rd Wednesday of the month from 12.30pm to 2pm. For £4 per person you can have soup with a bread roll followed by a sweet and a tea or co ee. Very good value in congenial company – they hope to see you there! Spring and Summer are great times of year to visit Testwood Lakes in Totton as the animals and plants are waking up or returning a er a very long journey in the Spring and raising young in the Summer. Hampshire IOW Wildlife Trust sta and volunteers will be giving families a warm welcome and there is plenty of fun to be had for children of all ages. For children aged 1.5-5 years there are weekly Forest School sessions on Monday mornings 9.30am-11.30am. Families can book ahead for a 6 week term (£39) and children can cook on a camp re, use tools to make things from wood and play in nature. Every last Saturday of the month 10am-12pm families are invited for a Wildlife Tots session themed around a story with some exploring and cra ing outside. Wildlife Tots is aimed at 2-5 years and cost £5 a session. Also, for this age group there is a weekly Natural Tots and Babies session every Tuesday morning 10.30am-12pm. is session involves buggy walks, cra s, sensory play and songs for babies. Cost £4 a session. For older ones on the last Saturday of the month there is Wildlife Watch which runs activities for 5-15 years (Wildlife Watch, 2-4pm). Young people can learn more about wildlife and take part in activities to help wildlife such as making a bird box or taking part in a conservation task with tools. ere are opportunities to see wildlife through bird watching and pond dipping activities. Adult accompaniment is essential, and the cost is £5 per session. Wildlife Rangers is a monthly club for 12-18 year olds to do practical conservation, bushcra and wildlife identi cation. In these sessions young people can take part in nationally recognised John Muir Award. Parental accompaniment is not necessary, but all young people must have completed a parental consent form. Wildlife Rangers run every last Saturday of each month 2-4pm and cost £5. Parking is available at the Education Centre on the hill overlooking Testwood Lake. Lee Attrill, a south coast representative for the campaigning charity Surfers Against Sewage (SAS) will be talking about what started as a hobby with his son and nephews, and their online shop “Sea Ranger”, and has developed into a personal mission to combat sewage dumping in the UK’s rivers and seas. Lee will highlight the vital work of SAS and their growing in uence on the protection of our inland and coastal waters. is will be of particular interest to all open water swimmers and anyone interested in the protection of our coasts and rivers. e move to the library is in recognition of Hythe Library’s growth towards a community climate centre, being a base for the Waterside Food Project and its hosting of a range of activities in its Green and ri y fortnight around half term. Activities included an Energy Saving workshop and children’s activities including wormeries and bird feeders. WaterCAN is continuing its work with Community Energy South in identifying suitable local sites for community energy schemes. As mentioned in previous updates we are also working with Power for the People and like-minded local organisations to remove the barriers to community owned sustainable energy developments. Interestingly, the City of Munich has a larger investment in UK windfarms than the UK government. Planning for the community meeting for “Holbury Greening” continues, and it is hoped to hold the rst meeting by the end of April. e aim will be to provide help to residents to reduce their energy use through simple, informed and achievable actions.
