Currently, Age Concern Hampshire is seeing increased demand for its services, making the call for volunteers more urgent than ever. Volunteers will be instrumental in enhancing the quality of life for older people by engaging directly with them and o ering invaluable assistance across a variety of roles. Volunteer positions are currently available across Age Concern Hampshire’s various services including support roles at Care and Wellbeing Centres in Dibden, Yateley, Locks Heath, and New Milton, as well as community assistance with their Community Information Service, Form-Filling and Foot Care Clinics. ese services play a crucial role in maintaining interpersonal relationships, which help preserve cognitive function. Age Concern Hampshire reports that the innovative activities o ered at these groups provide a sense of purpose for older adults and lead to positive physical and emotional health outcomes through social interaction. Ben Carter grew up in Hythe and started his career as a jazz saxophonist by playing for local bands in the area, before studying at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. e 23-year old, who draws inspiration from classic West Coast jazz legends like Art Pepper and Paul Desmond, recently released his rst album ‘Pulsar.’ e album, named a er enormous collapsing stars that emit rhythmic pulses of radiation, is the latest step on a promising career that has already seen him play with famous Jazz musicians such as Phronesis and Laura Jurd. As a teenager, Ben busked in Southampton and at local events such as the rst two Rock e Pier festivals in Hythe, honing his knowledge and love of jazz while raising money for local charities including e Honeypot Children’s Charity. He also played in jazz bands across Hampshire, enjoying performing with Romsey Area Youth Jazz Orchestra and the Southampton Youth Jazz Orchestra at the Turner Sims. In the future, Ben is keen to take his band on tour across the country - but he also wants to bring his music home to some of the concert halls where he rst encountered jazz. “I’d love to play more gigs locally across Hampshire, especially in a concert hall like the Turner Sims that I have a lot of history with, that would be amazing,” he said. “My main goal is for as many people as possible to listen to my music and hopefully enjoy it,” Ben added.
