Before this their nearest machine was just over a mile away, too far to help save a life. e machine has been installed on the outside of Brew Gas premises in Old Lyndhurst Road, SO40 2PF. It is housed in a special cabinet which provides 24/7 access to anyone in the community who needs to assist someone in cardiac arrest. It has also been registered on ‘ e Circuit’ a national register which enables people to locate their nearest machine and provides essential information to the local Ambulance Service. is donation was part of the Club’s ‘De brillators in Action’ which strives to equip local communities with de brillators and to provide training in their use and in CPR. New Forest Rotary Club gave £1,000 for the purchase of the de brillator but thanks must also go to members of the local community. ey responded generously to an appeal to donate their ‘small change’ and provided the additional £428 for the storage cabinet and essential medical sundries. e installation would not have been possible, however, without the generous support of the directors of Brew Gas who not only agreed to house and maintain the machine but also paid for Defibrillator outside Brew Gas in Cadnam the electrical installation. e machine can easily be used by any lay person as it provides spoken directions to guide you through each stage of the procedure. It is essential, however, to phone 999 immediately if someone is undergoing a cardiac incident. e Emergency Call Handler will advise where the nearest de brillator can be found and, if necessary, provide the code to open the cabinet. It is always good to have hands on training and especially to learn how to administer CPR. Local organisations and Parish Councils regularly provide free training and the Club would urge readers to respond to any invitations to attend.
