Warning: proud grandma writing ahead! It all started when I was invited to help decorate our local church for Christmas 2022. I asked if my granddaughter (age 4) could help. She was warmly invited and spent a delightful morning decorating the bottom of the Church Christmas tree and then directing decorations above her reach. e patience and fun of the men she was working with was priceless and the joy in her face was gorgeous! Since then she has become an o cial member of the church ower arranging team. This harvest she completed three arrangements entirely alone at the age of six! She was given the honour of making the arrangement (in floral foam) for the shelf below the war memorial. I gave her a bucket of owers and foliage of her own and o she went with joyous concentration, delicate care and passion. All her owers and foliage were harvested from my garden. We previously had walked around the garden talking about the owers and also on our walks home from school, along the “secret” path, we talk about the wild owers, the beauty of branches with lichen, r cones etc. On entering the church, the other ower arrangers’ faces light up when they see her and a beautiful interaction occurs. I have even observed an elderly couple watching while she completed her last arrangement. ere are so many things we can share with our children/grandchildren and our love of nature and owers is something precious I share with my precious granddaughter. Ideas and requests for Halloween and autumnal decorations are coming thick and fastsometimes I can’t keep up! Forthcoming meetings: 5th December: Demonstration by Lucinda Knapman “Christmas”, no meeting in January. 6th February 2025: Demonstration by Andrea Hilleard. All meetings at Copythorne Parish Hall, SO40 2NZ. Thursday evening, 7.30pm. For more information please contact Debbie on: 07769 830752.
