Debbie passed away earlier this year a er a two-year battle with cancer. Her husband Stuart named the dinghy with a small bottle of bubbles and then enjoyed a sail with Sandar Barton, one of the skippers with the Charity. Debbie came to Testwood Lakes Sailability in 2017 with the idea that her group of young adults with learning disabilities could sail and also get involved with helping the volunteers. e group have over the years learnt to rig the dinghies, launch and recover them, and some developed their sailing skills enough to sail solo. is has resulted in a long-term relationship between TLS and TEALS, the name of the group, which is still ongoing today, with two becoming volunteers for TLS. e relationship has bene ted all the volunteers of TLS as they have developed a much closer interaction with the group developing a better understanding of people with learning disabilities resulting in better relationships. is has made the members of the group feel more comfortable while at the lake. is knowledge is then used when interacting with other people with similar disabilities. Testwood Lakes Sailability sails from April to October on Mondays and ursdays, excluding bank holidays.
