HYUNDAI TROPHY On ursday 10th October in initially dull and dreary weather, 38 New Forest Golf Club Seniors embarked on this strokeplay competition o the white tees. Fortunately it stayed dry and the sun even made an appearance. e ground had so ened considerably a er the recent rain making conditions somewhat di cult such that just the top two in each division achieved nett par or better. Mike Broom did extremely well winning the nearest the pin prize on the 16th and heading Division 1, but it was Division 2’s Colin Bailey who emerged winner overall to take the Hyundai Trophy with nett 66. Division 1: 1st Mike Broom – nett 68, 2nd Brian Roberts – nett 69, 3rd Steve Waterman – nett 70, 4th Phil Kilburn – nett 71 (back 9=32). Commiserations to Phil Walker also with nett 71 but back 9=35. Winner Colin Bailey Jim Burgess Shield Tuesday 8th October 34 New Forest Golf Club Seniors started out on this Stableford competition o the yellow tees, but just 15 of them completed it as downpour a er downpour swept the course. Despite the weather and 18 temporary greens, several good scores were achieved, including two outstanding ones. Robin Swanston in Division 1 carded what all thought must be an unbeatable 40 points, but at the very last moment Charlie von Landau came in with a brilliant 42 points to head Division 2 and win the shield. Nearest the pin on the 2nd was won by Hugh Marchant. Division 1: 1st Robin Swanston – 40pts, 2nd Brian Roberts – 37pts, 3rd Phil Walker – 36pts. Division 2: 1st Charlie von Landau – 42pts, 2nd Frank Lockley – 35pts, 3rd Ian Johnston - 31pts. Winner Charlie von Landau Des Harvey Trophy On ursday 3rd October despite the sunshine, there remained quite a chill in the air as 31 New Forest Golf Club Seniors played this strokeplay competition o the yellow tees. Many excellent scores were returned with Brian Roberts’ nett 67 leading Division 1. However in Division 2, Dave Titchmarsh was 5 strokes ahead of the opposition having scored a brilliant nett 64. Division 1: 1st Brian Roberts – 67 nett, 2nd Steve Horn – 68 nett, 3rd Andy Homes – 69 nett. Division 2: 1st Dave Titchmarsh – 64 nett, 2nd Richard Hammond – 69 nett (back 9=30), 3rd Trevor Davies – 69 nett (back 9=34). Commiserations to Dave Stredder also with 69 nett but 35 on the back 9. Winner Dave Titchmarsh 11th Shallow Boat Competition: On Saturday 12th October Lymington & District Sea Fishing Club held its 11th Shallow Boat competition in which 12 club members took part. It was cold and a little rough to start, but for once the weather forecast was right. e sea calmed down making it a pleasant but cold day although they all said the sh were hard to nd. On competitions the sh are measured and weighed and released straight back into the sea and points awarded for each sh. Fish caught consisted of black bream, conger eels, dog sh, bass, bull huss, tub gurnard, pouting, whiting, thornback, small eyed, blonde and spotted rays. ey did have 2 specimen sh caught a bull huss weighing 12lbs 14oz and a tub gurnard 3lb 8oz both caught by Alan Mapes. Results: 1st Alan Mapes 134pts, 2nd Ian Rogers 93pts, 3rd Paul Dibden 83pts, 4th Derek Smith 72pts, 5th Colin Wright 71pts, 6th Chris Hardy 70pts, 7th Adrian Moody 67pts, 8th Barry Littlefair 64pts, 9th Paul Watson 45pts, 10th Brian Ansell and Alan Martin both 35pts and 12th Denis Mapes 20pts. 11th Club Shore Competition: On Saturday 12th October Lymington & District Sea Fishing Club held its 11th Shore competition. is was a changed venue from the Shingle Bank to Friars Cli , Mudeford because of a cold strong north westerly wind with a at sea. 11 club members plus 2 guest anglers shed the competition and 11 anglers weighed in sh consisting of small eyed ray, pouting, whiting, and conger eel. On these competitions under size sh count for points which consisted of pouting, whiting, bass and conger eel. A total of 24 sh were caught, measured and weighed and released back into the sea for a total weight of 16lbs 3¼oz.
