More than 20 people gathered at e Good Shepherd Church in Holbury on Saturday 19th October and spent a very enjoyable a ernoon wrapping and lling shoeboxes with Christmas gi s for children in Eastern Europe. e event was a great success due to the amazing amount of donations of knitted hats, teddies and gi s, and money towards transportation costs. e number of boxes made this year was 78. A further 26 boxes were contributed by Manor Church of England Infant School in Holbury. e boxes were collected from us during November by the Mustard Seed Relief Missions Charity, who organise the event. ey were delivered to disadvantaged children in Moldova, in time for Christmas. ese gi s are very much appreciated and bring happiness to many children at a special time of year. ank you again to everyone involved. New Forest Chefs Cook for Local Charity Some of the New Forest’s top chefs took time out from their busy kitchens recently to help raise funds for the Beaulieu based charity, the Countryside Education Trust, which aims to connect people to the countryside through its residential and day courses for children and adults. e event, held in the National Motor Museum’s Brabazon Suite and hosted by BBC South’s radio and weather presenter, Sam Fraser, raised over £3,000 for the charity. Following a welcome by Lord Montagu, the charity’s outgoing Chairman, a packed audience was treated to an evening of culinary excellence and tips by chefs from e Montagu Arms, Lime Wood, Careys Manor, Balmer Lawn, Brabazon Restaurant and Hythe based dining caterers, TASTE. Each chef cooked a signature dish which was then auctioned for the winning bidders to enjoy with a matching bottle of wine. A er interval canapés provided by the hotels, the chefs were split into two teams to go head-to-head in a very competitive but friendly Ready Steady Cook-o . e evening nished with an auction of fantastic prizes donated by the supporting hotels. Jane Cooper, Chief Executive of the charity said: “The funds raised ensure that the Countryside Education Trust can continue to bring more children to stay at the Home Farm in these difficult times.
