Joined by the ukulele group Romsey Tuekers and two other Marchwood Music Society groups: Flutes of the Forest and Saxophonous, the orchestra delivered an enjoyable two-hours of music themed around the musicals. Including songs from a varied catalogue, including Disney classics such as ‘Be Our Guest’ and ‘Can You Feel the Love Tonight’, as well as more mature numbers such as ‘Anthem’ from Chess and ‘Castle on a Cloud’ from Les Misérables, Marchwood Prelude Orchestra created an inclusive and warm evening’s entertainment. Prelude started the event in lively fashion to a full audience. Arrangements by John Bell were sympathetic to the makeup of the predominantly woodwind and string based orchestra. Of particular note was the medley from Mamma Mia! and ‘From Now On’ from e Greatest Showman. e latter returning with the surprisingly able assistance of the audience at the end of the concert. Between performances, songs were nicely introduced by two members of the orchestra. is provided just the right amount of context to frame the performance without breaking the ow of the audience’s investment in the music. A er the Orchestra’s opening section, Flutes of the Forest provided some great harmonies in their set. e familiarity with each other shone through in their performances, and their instruments played well together, particularly in their performances from Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Similarly, Saxophonous illustrated the versatility of their saxophones with ‘All at Jazz’ from Chicago as a stand-out performance. Romsey Tuekers was a change of pace, taking the audience to a lively nish before the intermission. e ukulele band played four numbers and it was refreshing to see ‘Summertime’ by Porgy and Bess included and diversifying their roster. Bernard Chinonso conducted Prelude wonderfully, with the orchestra knowing and responding to what was asked of them. e enthusiasm of the orchestra and their dedication to the concert was clear. e excellent artwork, by a dedicated member of the orchestra, was but one example of this. Marchwood Prelude Orchestra is part of Marchwood Music Society. Marchwood Prelude Orchestra FESTIVE SKITTLES Despite a very chilly and wet evening, a group of Rotarians and their guests turned out to enjoy a fun lled skittles evening with a bu et, ra e and Christmas Jumper Competition. Hythe & Waterside (H&W) Rotary would like to thank Hythe & District Club for once again providing the venue. e event raised almost £200 for Rotary good causes.
