Hythe and Dibden Community Centre Briefing from Hythe and Dibden Community Association is is number six in our series of “brie ngs” informing Herald readers of those groups and their activities within the Centre. is time we’re mentioning two similar ones: Friday Bridge Club and the A ernooner’s Bridge Club. e A ernooner’s, as the name should suggest meet on Wednesday afternoons from 1pm to play contact bridge using the Acol system. e Friday Bridge Club meet on Friday evenings from 7pm and play Chicago format rubber bridge also using the Acol system. Oh? You want to know what the Acol bidding system is? at’s far too much to cover but most Bridge games use it as its base. I will mention, for the curious among you, that it’s named a er the street where the Acol Bridge Club was founded in the 1930’s and that it’s about 30 miles from Hythe, Kent. Neither of our Bridge groups have existed quite that long though both have been membership groups for over forty years; are very friendly and welcome new and existing players. You can contact the Friday Bridge Group via: Dorothy on: 023 8084 6187 or Glynis on: 023 8084 6702. For the A ernooner’s- just pop in on Wednesday a ernoon. In other news: We have nally begun the unloved task of repainting our car park and are in the process of replacing the lights in Hall 2 with new LED lighting. Hopefully the rest of the ground oor will get its lights changed during the year. Visitors to the Community Centre are reminded that refreshments are available for visitors to and users of the Centre, during opening hours.
