GP practices are experiencing an increase in calls and hospital admissions are rising as the number of people su ering with seasonal illnesses increases. We are working together across the NHS and with our local partners to ensure we are here for those who need us. Patient safety remains our priority, so we are providing additional GP appointments to help support the extra demand. While our hospitals are busy, they are doing all they can to care for patients to get well again and back home as soon as possible. ere are also things we can all do to help and through these six simple steps, you’ll be helping your local NHS and getting ‘winter strong’: • Get vaccinated – Take up the o er of free u, COVID-19 and RSV vaccinations if you are in an eligible group. • Stay warm – It is important you keep warm when you are inside or outdoors as this can help you from getting colds, u or developing more serious health problems. Information on warm spaces such as churches, cafes and libraries near you can be found at: www.warmwelcome.uk • Plan ahead – Stock up on over-the-counter medicines and make sure you get repeat prescriptions in time for weekends but please only order what you need • Stay active – Staying active can upli your mood and keep you t. Plus, moderate exercise can strengthen your immune system, lowering your risk of seasonal illnesses. Information on Steady and Strong classes for older adults which are designed to increase your strength and balance can be found at: www. hants.gov.uk/socialcareandhealth/adultsocialcare/ balanceclasses • Know where to go – When you need help, the NHS is here for you, but there are a few things you can do to help your local NHS services. Use NHS 111 for advice on the most appropriate service for your needs, you may be directed to your local pharmacy or an urgent treatment centre (UTC). e Healthier Together app also provides advice for parents, young people and pregnant women. • Look after others – Keep an eye on vulnerable family members, friends, and neighbours. And if they are ready to be discharged a er a hospital stay there are things you can do to support them to return home. MAKE PERSONAL CHANGE EASY by Alan Jones, Registered Hypnotherapist Ok, we are now into the rst month of 2025, most likely, all those promises to change something in your life have already been cast aside for another twelve months. Making changes to behaviours, habits or feelings requires more than willpower because your brain is wired to want to keep doing the things that it recognises as familiar, it would rather keep, even those unwanted emotions and actions, rather than face the unknown. Willpower demands a lot of e ort and you can soon run out of energy. To successfully achieve the changes you want it is necessary to discover what created the problem in the rst place. Hypnotherapy can help you resolve those hidden triggers and teach you the techniques that will ensure you move forward in 2025 to the personal life you really want.
