As well as providing weekly Christian services in the village it is open every day for quiet re ection and prayer. Constructed in 1843 it is built of yellow bricks and Caen stone. e tower reaches a height of 132 or 40 metres. Its length is 112 or 34 metres and has an overall width of 55 9in or 15 metres. e entire cost was stated at £8,300! e years have taken their toll, particularly to the south-facing section of the roof. Severe storms over the last decade or two have caused many roof tiles to become dislodged and fall and rainwater is entering the building. Repairs have been carried out but a long-term solution is necessary. To ensure its ongoing presence in the village it will be necessary to replace the south section of the roof completely. Costs have been estimated at £209,792. £63,250 has already been found with a likely VAT grant of £34,965 payable on completion of the works. e remaining £111,577 needs to be raised. e Church is reaching out to Church preservation trusts, local organisations and the local community of Marchwood but any help the wider community of the Waterside could o er would be very much appreciated.
