Nominated for the Health and Wellbeing Impact category, the Hythe group were presented the runners-up prize in the presence of the Speaker of the House of Commons, Sir Lindsay Hoyle, who spoke of the value of Sheds in the community. A justi ably proud Allan Fairhead wrote on social media: “Although we were in the top three in our category, we didn’t win. (However), top three to building on Hythe Quay, alongside Hythe Pier. A er the presentation, New Forest East MP, Sir Julian Lewis was on hand to o er his congratulations, having arranged access to the Commons viewing gallery for Allan and Greg, from where they were able to watch and listen to a debate in progress. e “Hythe Shed (at the Pier)” was founded by Allan Fairhead in 2019 with the objectives of supporting the restoration and repair of the Hythe pier and its unique train, provide a haven for (mainly) men of a certain age to meet and socialise and to help members with projects of their own. e group is based in a restored us is a winner as there are over 1100 sheds in the UK”.
