At the end of November 2024 the project reached a signi cant milestone, with the completion of the asphalt layer across the site. Designed to be permeable, the asphalt layer allows rainwater to pass through, reducing surface runo and supporting the site’s overall sustainability e orts by aiding natural water drainage – minimising impact on the environment. Once complete, InstaVolt’s latest superhub will boast 44 accessible, ultra-rapid chargers powered by 100% renewable energy. It will serve as a critical node in the UK’s EV infrastructure, supporting the increasing number of motorists transitioning to electric vehicles. “Our Winchester site is the latest in a series of superhubs we’re opening across the InstaVolt network and it’s not just a new charging facility; it’s a bold step towards creating a sustainable future for transport in the UK,” said Delvin Lane, CEO of InstaVolt. “We’re thrilled to see such rapid progress at this site. The team and our partners have worked tirelessly to ensure the vision for this project becomes a reality. Unique in its sustainability, this superhub shows what the future of EV charging can look like: reliable, rapid, and powered entirely by green energy.” e Winchester superhub is set to be one of the UK’s most sustainable EV charging destinations, powered by an intelligent system which optimises solar use, reduces grid reliance and keeps the chargers running at maximum capacity. Solar panels, with a 500kW capacity, feed two on-site batteries (totalling 4MWh) to provide the primary power for chargers. When necessary, the system will automatically switch to 100% renewable energy supplied by Octopus Energy. e Winchester superhub is designed to o er more than just charging. With an on-site café hosted by one of the UK’s leading co ee brands, accessible charging bays, and drive-through options for towing vehicles, the superhub will provide convenience and comfort for all EV drivers. Strategically located near the busy A34 and close to the M3, this superhub will cater to long-distance travellers and residents alike when it opens later this year. It underscores InstaVolt’s commitment to expanding the UK’s EV charging network with dependable and accessible solutions, o ering EV drivers the con dence to travel without range anxiety. e project is being delivered in partnership with Parco Civil Engineering & Groundworks Ltd, whose expertise has been instrumental in achieving these key construction milestones, with the project hoping to complete late March this year.
