Past visitors have described the experience as being “like a crossover of being in the middle of an episode of Planet Earth and a theme park 4D ride!” Now in its fourth year, Winter Woodland Lights 2025 features a brand-new theme – ‘Light around the world’. A trail through the Trust’s woodland will lead visitors to discover a variety of illuminated areas which will tell the story of light’s interaction across the planet – from both natural and manmade sources. Finally arriving at the Woodland Arena, visitors and their senses will be treated to a stunning ying display with beautiful owls taking to the air to help tell a story that will amaze and inspire. e Trust’s Deputy Head of Living Collection, Tom Morath, mixes his life-long fascination with birds of prey and his involvement in dramatic performances outside of work to create the annual theme for Winter Woodland Lights. Tom says: “This is one of the most exciting events in our calendar and has become an incredible addition to our many displays throughout the year which mix stunning spectacle with fascinating narration to connect with visitors. Winter Woodland Lights really champions the beauty of our owls and the natural world whilst bringing colour and light to the darkest time of the year”.
