Swing your partner, round you go! Go along and do just that at a fun evening of folk dancing at a fantastic Ceilidh on Saturday 13th March at Cornerstone Church in Hythe. Fiddle Paradiddle is a professional ceilidh and barn dance collective that has performed at over 300 events across the UK and Europe since 2012. eir high energy playing, clear and informal calling style, and traditional tunes with a modern twist have made them a rst choice for hundreds of events up and down the country. With Fiddle Paradiddle there’ll be a three-piece band made up of ddler, guitarist and drummer. e musicians double up as callers and bring the dance oor to life as they explain and demonstrate the dances to you before getting started with the music. e evening is from 7pm - 9.30pm (doors open 6.45pm). Bring your own drinks and nibbles, though cold drinks, tea and co ee will be available. New Forest (East) Probus Club President Owen welcomed 23 members and one guest to e New Forest (East) Probus Club’s January meeting. A minutes silence was observed in memory of member Rob, who had been an active member since 1998. President Owen reported that the collection from November’s Air Ambulance talk raised £230. Future events planned for the Club include A ernoon Tea at Otter Nurseries on 27th February. Other Potential visits for 2025 include: a visit to ExxonMobil Petro Chemical Plant, breakfast at Calshot Activities Centre, a trip on Solent Dolphin’s “Alison MacGregor”, and a visit to Cowes, with lunch at the Island Sailing Club. e meeting concluded with an informative talk and illustrations by Kevin Patience on “ e Real African Queen” Hampshire. Kevin dispensed many of the myths concerning the African Queen (particularly that it was lmed at Wareham). e talk detailed the trials and tribulations of a 1915 Naval venture to transport a 40 tonne armed gun boat some 9,100km across southern Africa to lake Malawi in Tanzania to combat Bird Walk at Lepe two German gun boats. e Naval gunboat had the advantage of being 3 Knots faster, and was successful in sinking both German boats. e C.S.Forrester Book and associated lm were vaguely similar to the actual operation! e speaker for their February meeting is Alun Newman talking on “Media /Local Radio”.
