Organised by Dr. Sabine Akerman, the mixed team of admin sta , receptionists, health care assistant, nurses and doctors have been training hard for the run, which they are taking on to raise money for local charity Oakhaven Hospice. From their rst race to tackling a full marathon, each runner is stepping out of their comfort zone. One brave runner is taking on the full marathon, with another 3 team members running the half marathon, 5 will run the 10km route and the nal 6 will run 5km. e team have chosen to support their invaluable colleagues at Oakhaven Hospice, who support so many of their patients. e Charity’s annual budget is only funded 11% by the NHS, with 89% funded through fundraising. e team have been very touched by all the interest, encouragement and sponsorship from their patients so far. If you would like to help the team to support Oakhaven Hospice you can make a donation via their Just Giving page: justgiving.com/team/redandgreenteam The Red and Green running team WATERSIDE QUILTERS RAISE £450 FOR SOLENT RESCUE On Monday 24th February Waterside Quilters welcomed Kevin Perrett from Solent Rescue to their meeting to collect a cheque for £450, money raised by the group through various fundraising activities. Each year the group choose a local charity to support and raise funds for and Solent Rescue was chosen for 2024. Members also did a group project that involved making three quilts from materials donated to the group by Judy Elson one of their members. One of the nished handmade quilts was donated to Solent Rescue, and used as the main prize in their Christmas Ra e, raising a further £340. e other quilts were donated to the Linus charity to be given to children in hospitals around the area. Judy presenting Kevin with the cheque on behalf of the Quilting group Kevin thanked the group for all their work and generosity during the year and said the money will help towards the cost of keeping the busy lifeboat service going. Seven Miles from Any Town Hythe and District Historians next meeting is on Thursday 3rd April when Gordon Lewis will give a talk entitled “Seven miles from any town”. It tells the story of the village of Imber, on Salisbury Plain and its unusual history. e talk starts at 7.45pm in the Hythe and Dibden Community Centre in Hythe. Visitors are always very welcome.
