Parents and other villagers lined the road as children from Beaulieu Primary School led out on to the street, ready to take part in the races. Master of Ceremonies for the a ernoon was the new Rector of Beaulieu, the Rev Catherine Cowrie and when she asked the youngsters if they were ready for the fun to start, was greeted with a roar of enthusiasm. Following the children’s races, the adults provided the entertainment with a pancake relay race, with teams taking part including Palace House, the Montagu Arms, the Beaulieu Attraction, Countryside Education Trust, Beaulieu Warblers, e Master Builder’s House Hotel and the local fruit farm. e nal event of the a ernoon was a pancake tossing competition, won by Serena Williams (no, not the tennis player) from Marchwood, whose children Mia and George attend Beaulieu School. Serena ipped her pancake 140 times in 60 seconds, to claim the prize of a gold-coloured frying pan that she says will now take pride of place in her kitchen. Following the event, local businesses, the Montagu Arms, Master Builder’s House Hotel and the Beaulieu Attraction Brabazon Restaurant provided pancakes for the children and their parents, in the Village Hall. Event organiser, Jan Hoy, said: “This is always a great Schoolchildren running a race Left to Right: Rev Catherine Cowie, Serena Williams, Jan Hoy, Katherine Jones (Head Teacher) fun event for the community and the good weather has made it even more enjoyable this year”.
